Honors Work
December, 1928

This is the first year in which honors work has been developed to any extent at Dartmouth College. There are 11 departments who are this year organized to give honors work, Greek and Latin, English, Romance Languages, Mathematics, Geology and Geography, History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy, and Art. However, the Department of Geology and Geography has no men doing honors work.

There are 117 upperclassmen who are doing honors work this year in ten departments. Of this number 68 are seniors and 49 are juniors. The Department of English has by far the largest number with 43, and History has 25, which puts it in second position. Sociology ranks third with a total of 12 men doing honors work there. Economics has 10. Political Science has nine men, the Romance Language Department five, Philosophy five, Greek and Latin four, Mathematics three, and Art one.

AVERAGE OF 2.6 ATTAINED

All men doing honors work have maintained an average of 2.6 or better during their first two years as undergraduates except for 11 men who are doing honors work by special recommendation passed on by the committee in charge. History has nine men doing honors work by special permission, Economics one and Greek and Latin one. All men doing honors work in the other departments have an average of 2.6 or better.
