Dartmouth 26—Columbia 20

The Green retained its league lead by defeating Columbia 26-20 at Hanover, February 22. Langdell, lanky Dartmouth center, increased his scoring total by making 7 points and his substitute, Hein, led the rest 0f the Hanover team in scoring honors. The foul-shooting of the Dartmouth team showed marked improvement. At the half Columbia was leading and continued to outplay the Green squad until late in the game when several of the regulars who had been relieved by Coach Wachter returned to active participation and put the team ahead by a safe lead.

Dartmouth 34—Penn 35

Penn, staving off a great Dartmouth comeback turned back the Indians 35-34 in the Alumni Gymnasium February 25. The game went into overtime and Dartmouth secured the lead twice during the five minutes only to be overhauled and finally to be beaten by the Red and White when Matthews put the Philadelphians ahead with one point to spare and only a few seconds to play. The game was decided from the foul line where Dartmouth netted eight of sixteen and Penn dropped nine of seventeen free tries. The Penn team lead at the half 21-10 and it was only through a fighting rally late in the second half that Capt. Heep and his men tied the game and threatened the Quakers with defeat. Spaeth and Langdell starred in the scoring with nine points each.

Dartmouth 39—Yale 47

After running up an eight point lead in the first period Dartmouth bowed to a sensational Yale comeback in the second half and lost to the Bulldog five, 47-39 in the Alumni Gymnasium February 29. The Yale jinx seemed to be overcome but late in the game the New Haven team started a rally which was not to be stopped and by scoring 27 points in the final period on uncanny shots from all over the floor the Green was forced into second place in the league. Langdell had a field day for Dartmouth scoring a total of 23 points on 10 field goals and 3 points on free tries. The regular lineup of Austin, Capt. Heep, Langdell, Swarthout and Spaeth was used throughout most of the game.

Dartmouth 37—Temple 34

Dartmouth barely managed to nose out a strong Temple University basketball team at the gym March 7, 37-34. The Green led at the half by eight points but starting the second period with a rush the team from Philadelphia soon gained an advantage over Dartmouth. The lead see-sawed back and forth until a goal by Swarthout.and a point on a free try by Capt. Heep in the last minutes of play gave the Green enough of an advantage to win.

Dartmouth 41—Cornell 29

Dartmouth secured for itself third place in the Intercollegiate Basketball League by winning from Cornell at Hanover March 10, 41-29. The game was closely contested until the final minutes of play when the Green drew away from the Ithacans with a series of well-executed plays and accurate shots. This contest marked the last appearance of Capt. Bill Heep and of Langdell and Ellis in Dartmouth athletics. The large crowd gave each an ovation when they left the game late in the second period. Langdell ranks second in the standing of high scorers for the league.
