IN ANNOUNCING his resignation as head coach of football on November 28 Jack Cannell '19 terminated an active connection with Dartmouth athletics that has held since his matriculation in 1915 to the present time. Jack was the brilliant field captain of the 1919 team, when he was awarded the Barrett Cup. His later coaching career included assisting Doc Spears '17 in 1920; head coach, 1921-22; assistant to Jess Hawley, 1922-28; head coach, 1929-33. Dartmouth men appreciate his long and devoted service. His resignation is received with mixed feelings: gratification that Jack has voluntarily played this part in furthering the best interests of the College; admiration of the fine qualities of the man, of his courage and ideals, shown throughout 18 years of intimate association with Dartmouth.

The letter of resignation was given to C. G. McDavitt 'oo of Boston, president of the Athletic Council, and was forwarded at once to H. R. Heneage 'O7, supervisor of athletics, by whom it was released to the press. The letter follows:

"Believing it to be, under the circumstances, inthe best interests of Dartmouth College, I desirethat the contract under which I am engaged tocoach football at Dartmouth be terminated at asearly a date as the matter may be considered by theAthletic Council."

At a meeting of the Council called for December 17 the resignation will be considered. The three members representing the alumni are: Mr. McDavitt, P. W. Loudon '14 of Minneapolis, and E. B. Dooley '26 of New York City.

JACK HILL '35 of Littleton, N. H., has been elected captain of the 1934 football team. Hill won his letter last season when he was hailed as a triple threat back of unusual promise. Injuries handicapped him this season and his only appearances on the field were in the Pennsylvania, Cornell, and Chicago games, for brief periods.
