Announcement has been made by E. Gordon Bill, dean of the freshmen, that the Central High School of Bridgeport, Conn., has been awarded the Dartmouth Plaque this year by virtue of the high average standing of its graduates who are members of the class of 1931. By having an average scholastic ranking of 3.23 for the first semester, Charles K. O'Neill, Wilson T. Seney and William T. Wendell have won for the Bridgeport school the award which is given each year to the school whose delegation of three or more men has the best scholastic average for the first semester at Dartmouth.
This is the highest average that has ever been secured by any delegation that has won the plaque. The award is in the form of a shield, upon which are inscribed the names of the freshmen winning it and the name of their school, together with a statement of the nature of the prize. It is sent to the winning school.
The runner-up this year was the Steele High School of Dayton, Ohio, whose delegation had an average of 3.07. Third place was won by the Francis W. Parker School of Chicago, fourth place, the Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, N. J.; fifth place, Montclair High School, Montclair, N. J.; and sixth place, the Albany Academy, Albany, N. Y.
