Thirteen students visited the logging operations on the Mad River in the Waterville Valley, 80 miles northeast of Hanover the weekend of April 20th. Half of the winter's cut of 27,000 cords was still on the river banks and the Dartmouth men worked "on the drive" for two days, living at one of the logging camps. The camps were on the 22,500-acre tract above Campton, N. H., which was purchased in March by the federal government to be added to the half million acres now comprising the White Mountain National Forest.

Robert B. MacPhail '28 of Arlington, Mass., was chosen by the Public Speaking Department to represent Dartmouth in the regional fourth National Intercollegiate Oratorical Contest on the Constitution to be held April 29. The winner of this regional contest will compete in the national semi-finals and finals to be held later. MacPhail's oration was on "Jefferson and the Constitution." Last year William C. Cusack '27 won the regional contest and represented Dartmouth in the national contest in Los Angeles, where he placed fifth.
