To the Editor of The Dartmouth: I note with interest that the new scheme for the organization of Palaeopitus adopts the Soviet principle of representation. When this comes to the attention of the officers of the D. A. R. it will be hailed as one more piece of evidence that the colleges are controlled from Moscow.

The second important change in undergraduate affairs came more or less as a surprise to the undergraduates, practically all of whom favor the change.

The Athletic Council announced early in the month that all distinction between major and minor sports would be discontinued and that the straight "D" would be awarded to all eligible members of every athletic team. At the same time announcement was made to the effect that boxing was added to the list of organized sports and that the rifle team was dropped from the list of regular athletic teams.

All of these changes in the awarding of letters were made following acceptance of a report submitted to the Council by a special committee on major and minor sports composed of L. G. Hodgkins, president of the Dartmouth Athletic Council, Prof. F. Low, a faculty member of the Council and L. C. Milliken '28, a student member. These new rules regarding the teams and the award of letters will go into effect beginning with the 1928-291 sports next fall.

Under the new ruling the members of the football team will receive a seven inch "D" on a green sweater. The members of the baseball, track, hockey and basketball teams will receive a six inch "D" and individual choice of color combination of sweater and letter.

The qualified team members of other sports will be awarded a five inch "D" and individual choice as to the sweater and color will be given. Managers will receive the "D"with bar according to the sizes given to their sport.

The addition of the boxing team to the list of organized sports under the jurisdiction of the Council is a step long desired by members of the boxing team and students interested in the sport. The boxing team this last winter presented a petition to the Council asking that boxing be recognized, but it was refused.

The Council voted that the rifle team be deleted from the present list of organized sports under the Council's jurisdiction, as it was felt that this team was not properly classified as an athletic team and that it was a team which should be controlled by some other organization, probably the Outing Club.

No action was feken by the Council as to the awarding of winter sports letters although it was considered that there might be a possibility of awarding that team a five inch "D" if the Outing Club so desired. This is, however, very indefinite as yet, and final action must be taken by both the Outing Club Council and the Dartmouth Athletic Council before such a change can be made.
