New Buildings
DECEMBER 1929

The three new buildings now under construction are progressing rapidly and one of these, the hockey rink, will be ready for use within a month. The rink, which is located on the site of the old hockey rink on Memorial Field adjacent to the gymnasium at the east end, will be used by the team following the Christmas vacation. The structure, which will provide seats for 1700 spectators, will be similar in appearance to an airplane hanger with long arched trusses supporting the roof. Natural ice will be made, since this is con- sidered superior to artificial ice for hockey. By opening vents under the stands during the night and closing these during the day it will be possible to hold a body of ice, even during a protracted thaw.

The new group of four buildings to comprise the Tuck School unit on Hitchcock field is rapidly taking shape and will be entirely roofed in within a short time. This latest development of the physical plant will allow the Tuck School to operate as a unit and will remove it from the campus, leaving the present home of the School for other uses. A central recitation hall and office building flanked by two dormitories to accommodate about 100 students, together with a refectoryadjacent to the west dormitory, will provide a beautiful and fully adequate unit for the business school students and faculty. It will be ready for occupancy in September.

Benjamin Pomeroy Hall, the new dormitory east of Fayerweather Row, will be ready for use in September. Foundations are now being laid. Advanced work on the building will not be started until spring. A feature of this newest dormitory, in addition to providing rooms for 175 students, will be the low scale of rents which will be applied. Construction of the building and its finishing will be thoroughly up to the high standard of all other buildings on the campus but the interior plan, calling for a large number of rooms many of which will be for single occupants, will allow lower rentals than are now set for several of the dormitories where private baths, fireplaces and other features necessitate higher rental charges.

THE NEW ENCLOSED HOCKEY RINK WILL BE USED THIS SEASON
