October 1966 may well be recorded in future histories of the College as a month of decisions of extraordinary significance for the future direction of the College. The decisions, taken by the Faculty and by President Dickey and subsequently approved by the Board of Trustees, concern both policies and people.
In early October the Faculty of the Arts and Sciences endorsed recommendations for a long-range policy on postbaccalaureate education and voted its approval of Doctor of Philosophy-level offerings in Biology, Chemistry, and the Earth Sciences. This action is reported in a separate article on page 17. The announcements of major administrative staff changes are noted below.
