French Club
FEBRUARY 1929

The French Club this year is active in dramatics having presented among other plays de Banville's "Gringoire." Professor Folger took the part of King Louis XI; Mrs. Herbert F. West, Mrs. Isabelle Frost, H. D. Crosse '31, A. S. Lull '31, and R. D. Cleaves '32 also had parts.

French students are also taking an active interest in the lectures given in French at frequent intervals. Professor Xavier A. Morfin, visiting lecturer in French, presents weekly talks in French on subjects related to the history and customs of the country and related to current as well as classic literature. Professor H. F. Dunham recently read from contemporary French literature in English to interest the mass of the student body in trans- lations of French prose. This reading took place in the library Treasure Room, dedicated to C. M. Hough '79 by the class of 1879.

Perhaps the biggest event in program of the French Department last month was the lecture of M. Frantz Funck-Brentano, an eminent French historian and curator of the department of manuscripts and engravings at the Arsenal Library. He talked on "The French Family" as illustrated by the works of the great French painters. M. Funck-Brentano is in America for an extended lecture tour.
