Drake University, lowa, at its last commencement conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws upon Dr. Philip Fox, director of the new Adler Planetarium, Chicago.

"Cushman and Wakefield, Inc., announces the appointment of P. Paine Edson as vicepresident in charge of its management de- partment, effective September second. Mr. Edson was formerly president of Fred F. French Management Company, Inc."

The Tulsa Tribune of Tulsa, Okla., published the following in its issue of September 10:—'"Arba J. Irvin, business manager of the Tribune, was elected chairman of the city planning commission Monday after two years of active participation as a member. Mr. Irvin was recently reappointed by Mayor George Watkins for a three-year term."

The following is a recent news item: "The appointment of Allan P. Mackinnon of Winchester as general counsel of the Boston and Maine railroad was announced yesterday by President E. S. French. Mr. Mackinnon has been in charge of the railroad's law department as general solicitor since 1925, and has been with the railroad since shortly after his graduation from law school."
