After a rather lengthy summer hiatus the ALUMNI MAGAZINE returns to your mailbox with news from the College and your Class. Many changes have occurred since the last issue, the least of which is not the fact that the Class of '75 no longer brings up the rear in the "Class Notes" section of the Magazine. That fact is almost as significant as the fact that the fraternity composite photograph which many '75's were in has now moved from its heralded position over the fireplace in the living room to the not quite so revered slot on the wall in the front hall to, alas, the pool room. Before long that composite will have worked its way up the stairs to a position of ignominy in the third floor hallway, to be viewed by only a handful of partakers of the 500 gallons of New England rum — our own children.
Before commencing with the news I must congratulate, on behalf of the Class, Rick Waddell and all the other class agents whose efforts succeeded in placing the Class of 1975 at the top of our division in the Green Derby of the Alumni Fund drive. Everyone realizes the importance of the Alumni Fund, but few are familiar with the work that goes into putting together a successful campaign. Obviously, the class agents depend upon the contributors in the class to make the drive successful and all classmates who made contributions are to be sincerely thanked for their participation.
Now, on to other things. Bob Rees-Jones and Kathy O'Brien were married in June in Montclair, N.J. In attendance were '75's MikePeters, Mike Paplow, Fred Kriebel, (Clem stayed home to gnaw on hamburgers), DanWright, Mark Jones, Joe Durham, Bob Allen,Dan Kenslea, Rick Moore, Jim Erwin, and yours truly.
Trevor (The Goose) Rees-Jones '73 was the best man and had to pay for the destruction wrought upon Howard Johnson's by the post-reception party. A new Halloween game was discovered at Ho-Jo's — diving for beer cans in a pool. Naturally, the Phi Delt swimmers emerged victorious.
Other recent weddings were Eric Miller and Peggy Solberg who were married in Chicago, Andy MacDowell and Jane Scott, and PeterLeitch and Sue Giles. Peter is currently a member of the Massachusetts National Guard. I would appreciate reports on these and any other recent nuptials.
Tony Garufi and I have moved from our Commonwealth Ave. apartments in Boston to a bachelor pad in Winthrop near Logan Airport. We have substituted cockroaches for stewardesses in the hope that they can cook better.
Bob Ehinger is employed by the Group Department of The Travelers Insurance Company, as am I, and hopes to specialize in the sale of pension plans. Bob writes, "In case you heard stories about a grad who went off the ski jump in a baby carriage — believe them. The guy works for the same company as I!" I can't confirm that as I don't know who it is, but I'd like very much to find out. The story I'd heard was that the baby carriage pilot didn't make it.
Bill Greene is located in Washington, D.C., working for a consulting firm that does energy and environmental work. He has recently become interested in solar energy and would like to hear from classmates who might have done some work in this field.
Mark Malcolm is part of a sizeable Dartmouth contingent at the University of Chicago Business School. Frank Nelms is at the University of Southern California in the School of Public Administration and hopes to get into hospital administration when he graduates next year.
Walt Crane is a professional sales representative with Pfizer Laboratories Division of Pfizer, Inc. Word from Al Ungar '45 is that his son, Gary Ungar, is attending the University of Southern California, working on his M.A. in cinematography. Another Dartmouth father, Dave Heald '42 reports that his son, Peter Heald, was married in June to Caroline Belden of Bloomfield, Conn, and Mary Hitchcock's nursing school. They are living in Durham, North Carolina where Peter is a medical school student.
Scott Cleary is in his second year at Tuck and is "getting married to home-town honey!" JohnKilmartin has been in Paris since January studying French at the Sorbonne.
Hanover, of course, was the location of the September wedding of Jennifer Kemeny '76and Chas Corner '74. The wedding party included (from left) the Reverend JamesCavanaugh '55; Gordon Sleeper '73; Barry Grove '73; the bride and groom; MargeryFeldberg '74; John Lyons '73, who was best man; Robert Kemeny '77; President JohnKemeny '22ad, the father of the bride; and David Mechlin '72.
