Louis Orr, the artist who made a set of Dartmouth etchings in 1927, completed during the summer drawings for a new set of Dartmouth etchings which will be completed during the winter and offered for sale next spring. This set will consist of ten plates including eight etchings and additional etchings for the title page and for the index page. The plates will be larger than those of the former set. One hundred sets will be made from the plates and will be offered for sale at $100 each. The etchings will not be sold separately.
Mr. Orr chose for his second Dartmouth group the following subjects: Composition including Baker Tower, Webster House, and Stell Hall (on the title page), Entrance to Memorial Field Stadium (index page), Dartmouth Row (from South Faverweather Hall), Reed Hall (north entrance), Streeter Hall doorway, Tuck School (showing three buildings of the new group), Dick Hall's House (terrace garden and doorway), Baker Library, Sanborn English House, and Carpenter Art Building.
Since his first visit to Dartmouth Mr. Orr has been spending most of his time on commissions for work in this country and one of his latest achievements was the completion of a set of twelve etchings of American ports. His trip to America this summer was for the purpose of making the Dartmouth drawings and to complete a commission for the French government for an etching of the Capitol in Washington.
While he was in Hanover Mr. Orr received word that he had been promoted to the rank of Officer in the French Legion of Honor. At the close of the war Mr. Orr was made a member of the Legion of Honor in recognition of his artistic work done during war times and particularly for the triptych of Rheims Cathedral the drawing for which was made under shell fire. In recent years several of Mr. Orr's etchings have been wought for exhibition in the Louvre Museum.
