There has recently appeared from the ElmTree Press, Woodstock, Vermont, "Fragments from Vermont's Parnassus," edited by Dr. Charles L. Dana '72. This volume, like all others printed at the Elm Tree Press, is a very attractive piece of book making. It contains thirty-five poems by Vermonters whose work Dr. Dana believes worth preserving in this form. In his introduction Dr. Dana states: "The present work covers certain contributions of citizens of Vermont to the 'High Art' during the State's many years of existence, but leaves out all living poets. . . . The work will show, to some extent, the effect upon the imagination of a people who live in the most beautiful and charmingly mountainous state in the Union." Dr. Dana continues, "I would not say that Vermonters have written better poetry than citizens of other states; but I do venture the statement that Vermont has studied and encouraged her poetic workers more wisely and successfully than have other states." In this small illustrated volume will be found familiar poems by Charles G. Eastman, John G. Saxe, Royal Tyler, Mrs. Julia C. R. Dorr and others.
