CLASS OF 1878
AUGUST 1930 William D. Parkinson

The Boston papers of June 6 announced the appointment by the Finance Commission of a committee of three experts to probe into the reasons for the increase in cost of the public schools of Boston from $6,000,000 in 1918 to $22,000,000 for the current year. The chairman of this committee is William D. Parkinson, retired principal of the State Normal School at Fitchburg. Superintendent Burke of the Boston schools makes this comment upon the selection: "It is a very good committee. I happen to know Dr. Parkinson very well. He is a very high-grade educator who can be depended upon to approach the problem and study it dispassionately."
