The varsity basketball team, cruising through the season, was the victim of many incongruities and while at times showing signs of disintegration of playing ability, on the whole the record was good as far as the standing went, for Dartmouth ended in a tie with Yale for second place in the Eastern Intercollegiate League.

While a tie for second place is no particular stigma, many of us had hoped for better things, although Columbia's position in first place was unimpeachable, for the Lions captured the title by winning ten straight games, only the third time that this trick has been turned in the entire history of the league.

Dartmouth coursed through the first part of March with still a mathematical shot at the title, which dwindled into a mathematical chance to tie for the title by the second week.

The most noteworthy success scored by Dolly Stark's team came right down in New Haven one fine evening when the Green was arrayed against Yale, fortified by Booth. It had been the Blue war cry that their team was beaten in Hanover without the services of little Albie, which was true, and that vengeance would be theirs when Dartmouth came to town.

But the game ended 18-17 in Dartmouth's favor, a stroke which put Yale out of running for the title. Gray Magee was the hero of the evening with three baskets and he aided his team to throw off a Yale lead of 12-10 at half time and continue on to victory in the second half. Dolly Stark reported that despite the score it was a slow game with much defensive tactics being employed by both teams which did not help to speed up the action.
