Jules Claude Roule, assistant professor of Romance Languages, died of bronchial pneumonia at Dick's House, January 16, at the age of 47. Being taken ill with a septic sore throat as College reopened after the Christmas recess, Professor Roule's illness became acute January 13. It developed into pneumonia, which brought on his death three days later. Funeral services were held in Rollins Chapel January 18, and the body was interred in the Hanover cemetery.
Professor Roule had been a member of the Dartmouth faculty since 1914, when he was appointed as instructor in Romance Languages. He was born at Boulogne, Prance, in 1885. He studied at the Ecole Pratique de Commerce at Boulogne-sur-Mer, and came to the United States in 1904 after a year as instructor at the Berlitz School of Languages. He spent several years in business capacities and taught at the Portland School of Languages and the Cony High School of Augusta, Maine, before coming to Dartmouth in 1914. He became assistant professor in 1921.
