The Dartmouth boxing team put on a good show recently, Eddie Shevlin's men holding Syracuse to a 3½-3½. draw in an exciting match. Bob Veres of Dartmouth won the only clear knockout victory in the 115pound class, and O'Connor of Dartmouth saved the day by getting a draw decision from Referee John Martin in the 135-pound class.
Trailing Dartmouth picked up two points in the heavy division when Capt. Bill Brister and Sarajian both defeated their men. It was a satisfying verdict, for Syracuse has always been known for strong teams.
The Dartmouth freshman basketball team has been going along blithely on its way, mowing down a succession of small opponents by scores in the 60's, which somehow do not hold much interest. Later when the hard opponents come along the team will be really tested. The yearling hockey outfit dropped a 6-3 decision to Danny MacFayden's Hebron team.
The freshman swimming team plastered Brookline High School 49-12, but the feneers fell before Harvard by a 16-2 score, which was quite top-heavy. The swimming team lost to Columbia, but uncovered several capable men, and we will be able to go into swimming more completely when the schedule rolls into the latter part of this month.
The gym team topped McGill 26-10 and Bowdoin 48-6 in two warm-up matches for harder ones to come. Coach Pat Kaney has been developing a good crew, but, like swimming, there will be more news next month on this sport.
