Honor Professor Young
APRIL 1932

A resolution expressing sorrow at the death of Professor J. W. Young who died here February 17 was received by President Hopkins from the department of mathematics at Lehigh University recently. Professor Tomlinson Fort, head of the department of mathematics at Lehigh, said in his letter accompanying the resolution that "all American mathematicians will, I am sure, join in the deep regret which we feel at Professor Young's death."

The resolution, which was signed by sixteen members of the Lehigh faculty, follows:

"Inasmuch as John Wesley Young, through his research, through his books, through his study of the problems of teaching and through his work in the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America, was a leader in American mathematics, and inasmuch as he was a personal friend of almost all American mathematicians :

"Be it resolved that the Department of Mathematics at Lehigh University desires by this resolution to express the deep sorrow of its members at the death of Professor Young, and to assure his family and colleagues at Dartmouth of their sympathy and friendship."
