FRENCH LEADERS PAY HOMAGE TO THEIR AMERICAN FRIEND

Dear Sir:
No one, during the two last generations has done more for America to be better understood and loved in France than Mr. Edward Tuck.
Generous, simple mannered, with a kindly, yet shrewd smile, doing nothing haphazard, each of his acts and benefactions having been well thought over, in communion with his admirable wife during the long years of a happy married life, he has been to us all a model; blessed by the sick in the hospitals, by our soldiers in the trenches, by the lovers of art visiting our museums.
When Franklin, leaving France, had returned to his "dear Philadelphia," Chastellux, ex-chief of Staff of Rochambeau's army wrote to the Sage: "When you were here we had no need to praise Americans, we said, look, here is one of them."
In the same manner, we now say, "Look, here is one of them," and we point to Mr. Edward Tuck.

J'ajoute, qu'ayant longtemps represents le departement de Seine-et-Oise at la ville de Rueil, dont il a ete l'inlassable bienfaiteur, je lui garde une reconnaissance toute particuliere.
J'ai done grand plaisir a m'associer, par cette lettre, au juste liommage que lui rendent ses amis at je vous suis reconnaissant de m'y avoir convie.
