New Rushing Plan
October 1933

A new fraternity rushing plan, formulated and adopted by the Interfraternity Council last spring, was put into operation with the opening of the new college year. Under its provisions, Dartmouth's 26 fraternities will have no contact with freshmen but will confine all rushing activities to a four-week period after the opening of college in the sophomore year of the class being pledged.

Under the rules governing sophomore pledging, the rushing will continue from the opening of college to the Thursday nearest a four-week period. A man may sink at any time after the first two weeks, but the breaking of this pledge will disqualify him for further sinking for a period of one year from date. Each house may hold only one formal open house during the four-week rushing period, and no sophomore on probation may be pledged by a fraternity.

Among the prohibitions against freshman rushing are the following: (a) no calling on freshmen, (b) no open houses for freshmen, (c) no freshman's name to be voted on in a fraternity meeting, and (d) no entertainment of freshmen in fraternity houses or on fraternity property by fraternity men at any time.
