After several years of ill health, Dr. Alexander Quackenboss passed away in Boston, October 37. In his death the class loses a member whose professional career has been highly successful, and whose qualities of mind and heart made him highly respected.

Charles C. Carpenter, youngest son of our deceased classmate, was reported missing on the arrival in England of a steamer on which he was a passenger. At time of wriing his fate was unsettled.

H. E. Gage with Mrs. Gage spent his vacation in Hanover during October, his first real taste of college life in term time since graduation. The Junkins, Mrs. Gile, and a timely trip of Dr. Merrill and son added much to the social enjoyment of their stay.

The usual after-the-game dinner of the Eighties group was eaten at the Boston City Club, October 28, with the following in attendance: Edwin A. Bayley '85;. J W. Newton 'B6; Edward A. Burnett, H. E. Gage, Fred A. Howland, Sydney E. Junkins, Edward W. Knight, Frank B. Sanborn '87; Warren F. Gregory, Eleazar Cate, Dr. William W. Lougee '88; Dr. David N. Blakely, Harry M. Frost, James A. Wellman '89. The dinner was in charge of Sanborn. Knight presided. Bayley gave an account of the life of Judge Whitcomb '85, recently deceased. Newton spoke of the astronomical work lately published by Prof. E. B. Frost '86, and Sanborn reported on men of '87 whose illness prevented their attendance.
