The Trustees of Dartmouth College held their annual fall meeting in Parkhurst Hall on October 26 and took up a full docket of business, including the budget for the current academic year, reports from the various standing and special committees, elections and appointments to the faculty, and the granting of leaves of absence.

The Trustees present were President Hopkins; John R. McLane 'O7, Manchester, N; H.; Lewis Parkhurst '78, Winchester, Mass.; Henry B. Thayer '79, New Canaan, Conn.; Clarence B. Little '8l, Pembroke, N. H.; Morton C. Tuttle '97, Boston, Mass.; Edward W. Knight '87, Charlestown, W. Va;. William R. Gray 'O4, Hanover, N. H.; William W. Grant Jr. '03, Denver, Colo.; Philip S. Marden '94, Lowell, Mass.; and Victor M. Cutter 'O3, Newton, Mass.

One of the most important items of business taken up by the Trustees was the adoption of a policy of more rigid supervision of off-campus rooming and the creation of a standing Committee on Student Residence, to be appointed by the President.

The Trustees approved the election of Wilbur S. Howell as .Assistant Professor of Public Speaking, and the appointments of Lester V. Chandler as Instructor in Economics, Harold J. Tobin as Instructor in Political Science, and Clifford P. Kittredge as Instructor in Power Engineering in the Thayer School.

Leaves of absence for the academic year 1933-34 were granted to Nelson L. Smith, Assistant Professor of Economics, and Harold J. Lockwood, Professor of Power Engineering in the Thayer School. Professor Smith was recently appointed to the New Hampshire Public Service Commission by Governor Winant, and Professor Lockwood was drafted by the National Recovery Administration to act as regional administrator for the states of New Hampshire and Vermont.

The resignation of Lee S. Hultzen, Assistant Professor of Public Speaking, was accepted by the Trustees with appreciation of the value of the service which he rendered to the College.

The Trustees heard the reports o£ the chairmen o£ the Executive Committee, the Committee on Physical Development and Maintenance o£ the Plant, and the Committee on Investments.

Appointment of the standing committees of the Trustees for the academic year 1933-34 was announced by President Hopkins as follows:

Executive Committee—Lewis Parkhurst, chairman; the President, Morton C. Tuttle, and John R. McLane.

Committee on Degrees—Edward W. Knight, chairman; the President, Henry B. Thayer, and Philip S. Marden.

Committee on Physical Development and Maintenance of the Plant—Henry B. Thayer, chairman; the President, Morton C. Tuttle, William R. Gray, and William W. Grant Jr.

Committee on Investments—John R. McLane, chairman; the President, Clarence B. Little, and Victor M. Cutter.

Noted Athlete to Council Paul W. "Red" Loudon '14 of Minneapolis, vice-president of the Alumni Council, has been elected to the Athletic Council to the place left by the death of Joe Gilman '05.
