Under the sponsorship of the Secretaries Association "Dartmouth College News" is again producing a movie of Dartmouth life and activities. This new set of two 16 mm. films, each reel of 400 foot size, will be ready for showing before alumni clubs about the middle of April. The movies may also be rented by individual alumni upon application to the Secretary's Office, Parkhurst Hall, Hanover, N. H.
This latest movie has been more carefully prepared than any in the five years of operation of the alumni news reel service. Based upon a scenario written by students in Prof. E. B. Watson's play-writing course, the movie follows the activities of a cast of four undergraduates during the winter season. It is directed by Prof. Warner Bentley, coach of The Players, and is photographed by S. D. Brown '34, the cinematographer who has operated the camera in several previous Dartmouth films. Under consideration now is the possibility of continuing this innovation with fall and spring scenarios next year, thus covering a complete college year in Hanover and making a "Story of Dartmouth" in movie form. The present cast would be continued, consisting of: William S. Cumings '34 of Bethlehem, Pa.; Emerson Day '34 of Bronxville, N. Y.; Wilbur L. Powers '34 of Newton Highlands, Mass.; Elmer D. Rogers Jr. '35 of Detroit, Mich.
The plot of this new production which will soon be viewed by alumni throughout the country is not heavy. The story is concerned with the activities of a freshman heeler on The Dartmouth and his friendship with three upperclassmen who are engaged in Outing Club preparations for Carnival, studying for mid-year exams, hockey practice, and tutorial and honors conferences with teachers. The film follows the four students through exams and then through Winter Carnival.
In the course of the movie several wellknown Hanoverians are brought into the picture, including President and Mrs. Hopkins, Prof. C. R. Lingley, Prof. J. D. McCallum, Prof. J. M. Poor, and Dean Laycock. Mrs. N. E. Gilbert and Dan Richardson '9l play the parts of mother and father of the freshman visiting their son at Carnival.
No attempt has been made to produce a play but rather to make a picture that would be superior in continuity and subject matter to the previous news reels.
