WHO IS THE MYSTERIOUS ELEAZAR?
November 1934 Dean Chamberlin '26

THE GREEN QUILL by "Eleazar." Collection of Verse. On sale only at the bookstores in Hanover, 25 cents. Entire proceeds of sale donated to Mary Hitchcock Hospital. The clever rhymes in this anthology first appeared in The Dartmouth last year. The author, "Eleazar," is unknown. Reviewed

THERE IS life-blood in his verses, there is vigor in his pen His felicity at rhyming is a joy to Dartmouth men. He has the trick of versifying the least of campus news.

Has done more for college spirit than three rallies could produce.

Memorabilia and occasions are his themes from day to day

And he handles current hist'ry in a most diverting way.

Not the least of his fine rhyming in his frequent change of pace,

But how did he contrive to keep a secret in this place?

He is not a Frost or Hovey, a Laing or Lattimore He's just a campus poet, a nameless troubadour. Sometimes his verse is ragged, but it's hardly ever dull,

It veers from tales of Ledyard to a college chronicle. He knows his Hiawatha and he's heard of Ogden Nash

But whoever are his mentors, his motive isn't cash. His work is no doubt heightened by continued mystery

And no-one (so they say) knows his true identity.

Some of Eleazar's Verses

"You can't compare a touchdown with the thingsthat I can doI got a 'D' in Eccy and a 'D' in Psychy too.In fact in every course I tookI didn't do much better,So I don't see why I can't wearA 'D' upon my sweater."

SINNER AT EIGHT

"Consider the case of Angus Mac QuenchWho stayed up all night to master his French,Which made him so sleepy he slept on too lateAnd couldn't get up for his French class at 8."

LITTLE TALES OF LITTLE PEOPLE

"A dloph MacGoldberg has been here a year;To fame he has one lone pretenseFor he's the one freshman in all of the CollegeWho never has sat on the Senior Fence."

AMAZING STORY

"The luckiest fellow in Dartmouth CollegeIs Beniamino A lexis MacPheen,Who once, in his travels through White RiverJunction,Arrived at the traffic light WHEN IT WASGREEN."
