Bob MacPhail recently gave me the original of a picture of the Harvard-Dartmouth game played in the fall of 1937, in which Myles Lane and Al Marsters dashed from one end of the Stadium to the other to pile up a 32 to 6 score. The picture is of particular interest because eight members of the class of 1928 can be clearly distinguished.
Footballer Jack McAvoy is enjoying success as head coach at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. Jack's teams have won several conference titles in the last few years, and this year the climax was reached when Ursinus beat University of Pennsylvania. Al Fusonie is head of the German department at Taft School in Connecticut, and as head coach has turned out some fine football teams in the last few vears.
The Dartmouth-Harvard game brought out a large delegation, and the 1928 seats were good this year, being in Section 3. George Cole, Ken Graf, Frank Thurston, Don Morris, Lanky Langdell, Len Kilkelly, Joe Smith, and Skipper Drayton were among those holding choice seats.
Ken Graf had just returned from his honeymoon and according to Frank Thurston's description looked "fit, fancy, but thin." I understand that Ken ran for the New Hampshire legislature, but as the election news hasn't seeped down yet, I must delay the information until the next issue.
Joe Smith is no longer teaching, and is now with W. T. Grant Co. at Codman Square, Dorchester, subject to transfer without notice. Joe and Eleanor were at a party with us after the Harvard game.
Joe had some news for me as follows: Sammy Middlebrook is a renting agent for a large office building in Hartford, Conn.; Bunny Goodrich is with the Travelers Insurance Co.; and Doc Simonds has gone into teaching at Westchester High School.
Babe Shaw is reported as running a haberdashery shop in Wellesley under the title of "The Wigwam." Topper Robinson is said to be doing something involving a stone quarry in Greenfield, and Ed Sawyer is with the Seafood Division of the Great A. & P. Stores.
Those of you who knew her will be sorry to hear that Bob MacPhail's mother passed away recently after a long illness.
