Routine business occupied the attention of the Dartmouth trustees at their annual fall meeting in Parkhurst Hall on October 29. The budget for 1934-35 was the major item considered by the Board, with elections and appointments to the faculty, resignations, leaves of absence, and committee reports rounding out the docket.
The trustees voted an appropriation of $1,000 as a special grant to The Players, in accordance with the desire of the Department of English and the request of the Council on Student Organizations, in order that the dramatic club may put on a play or plays primarily designed to be an educational contribution to the College community rather than a box-office attraction.
Approval was voted on the faculty elections, appointments, resignations and leaves of absence recently announced by Dean Bill. Changes were voted in the titles of Dr. John F. Gile '16 from Instructor in Physical Diagnosis to Instructor in Anatomy at the Medical School, and of Dr. Colin C. Stewart Jr. '23 from Docent in Pharmacology to Instructor in Physical Diagnosis in the. Medical School.
The Board took action which established Commencement Day on Monday rather than Tuesday, as had been the custom prior to last June.
All the members of the Board of Trustees, with the exception of Governor Winant of New Hampshire were present. Those in attendance were President Hopkins, John R. McLane '07, Lewis Parkhurst '78, Henry B. Thayer '79, Clarence B. Little '81, Morton C. Tuttle '97, Edward W. Knight '87, William R. Gray '04, William W. Grant Jr. '03, Philip S. Marden '94, and Victor M. Cutter '03.
New Hampshire Leaders Nelson L. Smith '21, chairman of N. H. Public Service Commission, and H. Styles Bridges, Univ. of Maine 1918, elected Republican Governor of New Hampshire.
