The Secretary attended a luncheon recently, given by the Manchester alumni to the undergraduates in Dartmouth from Manchester. About twenty-five grads were present and fifteen undergraduates.
There was a general discussion of college interests, scholastic and athletic, mainly athletic, of course, participated in largely by the undergraduates. The alumni wanted the slant of the undergraduates on the athletic situation, and they got it. There was not an unanimity of feeling, but the preponderance of opinion seemed to be that Dartmouth had a good football team last season, coached to play a clean, skillful, snappy game, but a little too refined and sparing of the last ounce of strategy and punch that on occasions was necessary and apparently available to win the game.
It was suggested by some long observers of the game that college athletics had cycles and that 1932-3 were down cycles for Dartmouth football. There seemed to be no reason for or explanation of these cycles. They just happened.
Dr. and Mrs. N. W. Sanborn of Gainesville, Fla., were greatly honored in the recent celebration of the 50th anniversary of their marriage.
