The death of Henry Aiken's widow, Grace (Ladd) Rodgers, occurred at East Northfield, Mass., October 34, 1933. Two daughters by a second marriage survive her, Jean (Rodgers) Folsom and Eleanor Rodgers. When at Mt. Holyoke, Mrs. Rodgers was the roommate of Jane Carpenter, sister of our classmate.
Welch has suffered an affliction in the loss of his wife, Isabelle (Jewell) Welch, who died of heart trouble December 2, 1933. Mr. and Mrs. Welch, together with Sanborn and Gage, attended Blossom's funeral service last July. The day was very hot, and Mrs. Welch's illness dated from that time.
In December, A. C. Willey retired after forty-two years in wholesale grocery business. In 1891, he entered the service of Silas Pierce & Cos., Boston. Later they and several concerns consolidated into Rival Food Products, Inc., and in 1902 Mr. Willey came to Portsmouth, N. H., to assume charge of a new branch established there, continuing until his retirement and developing a large business. His retirement was marked by a complimentary banquet at Hotel Rockingham, .tendered by the concern, the president of which presented him a check. Later the employees gave him a lounging chair, in which to indulge wellearned leisure.
The proposed replacement of the old Ledyard Bridge with a modern steel structure recalls first impressions of freshman year: "Norwich and Hanover!" the dilapidated stagecoach bulging with students rumbling over the rattling planks, up the steep hill to Hanover plain; first sight of campus and college, birth of 'B7, and home for four formative, eventful years.
