Deane is one of the few survivors of '76, perhaps the only one, who has definitely enlarged his activity within the past year. His son-in-law, the husband of his step- daughter with whom he has made his home for many years, died last October, rendering it necessary that he resume duties and responsibilities from which he supposed he was permanently relieved. His public duties have also taken more time than usual due to new regulations and other complications.
Mrs. J. F. McElroy came from her home in Albany in June for the graduation of a granddaughter at Smith, and to be present at the ordination of a grandson to the ministry in iMaine. She called on the Secretary at his West Medford home, where class matters of interest to both were talked over.
