The last of June the Secretary received a good note from Walter Taylor Sumner in which he stated that his health was the best it had been for the last two years and that he was very happy on the job; also some very interesting newspaper clippings, giving an account of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of his consecration as bishop of Oregon. Now comes the sad news of his passing away on September 4. '9B has certainly lost heavily this year in the passing of Harry Goodall, Bob Marden, and Walter Taylor Sumner. What strong and helpful lives they all lived! We shall miss them keenly.
The Secretary called on Israel Aubey and Chester Williams and learned they both had had interesting automobile trips to the Gaspe Peninsula this summer.
Fred Pope has just been appointed to a good position as business manager of a large law office of about thirty attorneys at 105 South La Salle St., Chicago.
The Secretary received recently a souvenir postal from Bobby Brown and his daughter, sent from the home of Robert Burns in Scotland.
Miss Alice Hoyt, daughter of Capt. and Mrs. William Everett Hoyt of Salem, was united in marriage with Mr. James E. Wood of Belmont in June. The young couple are to live in Chicago.
Mayor LaGuardia of New York had the good judgment to appoint Seelman as orator at the graduating exercises of the Brooklyn College seniors at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The New York papers gave much space to the oration, and all '98 would like to have been present to hear it.
The Secretary has just received from Buck Chandler a photograph of William Boardman. It certainly took me back many years to the time when he was one of the loyal members of '98.
In a recent call by Israel Aubey on George Farley of Amherst, George enthusiastically states that he was planning to attend the next reunion of '98. Here's hoping we may all meet him there.
The Secretary hopes that every '98 man will order direct the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and so keep in close touch with the College.
Ted Leggett again carried '98 one hundred per cent strong for the Alumni Fund. Miss Margaret W. Snow completed a successful course at Simmons College, and has accepted a responsible position in the Children's Hospital in Boston, commencing in September.
Secretary, 57 Grove Hill Ave., Newtonville, Mass.
