Marshall has been for some months at his summer home in Stratford, Vt. Among his June appointments was a commencement address to the Danbury Normal School in Connecticut. During the summer Marshall has occupied many vacation pulpits.
In July the Secretary could not imagine why he should be doomed to wait some hours in Kansas City for train connections. The telephone book in a strange city usually provides some entertainment. It did in this case. The name, Mrs. Caroline R. Woodworth, might designate the widow of Classmate J. R. Woodworth. The assumption was correct, and a new acquaintance was formed. Woodworth was killed in action in the Argonne forest, September 19, 1918. The daughter, Mary, married a livestock man, John Wilken, and has one son, Roger.
It is a pleasure to report the marriage of Professor A. A. Bacon of the department of physics in the American College at Beirut. The first Mrs. Bacon died several years ago, and on last Christmas Day Bacon was married to Mrs. Lydia Jones, a family friend through a number of years. Last year was for A. A. a sabbatical one and was devoted to study at Columbia and other colleges. It appears that hard times are not confined to America, for this Syrian University has suffered in incomes and student body and the professors have suffered in the depreciation of the dollar.
