JUST ABOUT ALL one can say about the Norwich, Vermont and Bates games is that Dartmouth won them, 39 to 0, 47 to 0, and 59 to 7. If the three games had been scheduled in reverse order, they would have been somewhat closer to what Coach Blaik wanted in the way of increased opposition from Saturday to Saturday. As it was, the Indians had an increasingly easy time from Saturday to Saturday, and consequently, at this writing, the Big Green eleven lacks the cohesion and confidence that only a trying game can give it.
Despite this hanging-in-the-air atmosphere around Memorial Field, the current edition of the Big Green has shown unmistakable signs that it is a much better football team than last year's. Quite aside from the general improvement that comes with time and experience, the Dartmouth eleven has greatly improved its kicking game, and the acquisition of a quartet of forward-passers and a bevy of tall, rangy ends who can catch the ball has given the Big Green team a much more balanced attack. Last season Dartmouth had a simple, sound and effective running game, and with an aerial threat to keep the defense from massing, the ground attack should be increasingly effective this year. To continue this bullish recital, the Big Green line is sound from end to end, and considerably improved, while the veteran backs, such as Captain Jack Kenny, Joe Kiernan, Eddie Chamberlain, John Handrahan, and Phil Conti, are better ball-carriers than they were last season.
