Paul Guibord retained his College tennis crown on October 5 by defeating Norm Anderson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3, in the final match of Coach Herb Gill's fall singles tournament. The match was closely fought, with Guibord's uncanny ability to anticipate shots and his unlimited stamina enabling him to turn back Anderson's strongest bids. Dartmouth's No. 1 tennis player swept through to the title with the loss of only one set, that to Larry Marx in the semi-final match.

On the following Saturday, Guibord and Anderson teamed up to win the College doubles title from Stan Brown and Phil Harty, 4-6, 6-4, 9-7, 8-6. The sophomore team of Brown and Harty surprised the veteran pair by capturing the opening set and providing stiff competition throughout the match. Brown, who won the Hanover tournament during the summer, is the son of Judge Nelson P. Brown '99.
