New Bulletin Series
December 1935

Under the direction of the Dartmouth College Publications Committee, a marked revision of the various official publications of the College has been put into effect, and two numbers of the new series of the Dartmouth College Bulletin have already appeared in a new size and format. Typographical improvements have been worked out by Vrest Orton, of Weston, Vt., who designed the volume Letters of EleazarWheelock's Indians which was selected as one of the fifty outstanding books for typographical excellence in the year of its publication.

The new series of the Bulletin will contain ten numbers, published from August through June. The first is "Honors and Degrees," which will hereafter be published in August, taking the place of the present "Records of Men of Distinctive Scholastic Accomplishment" and including also the parts of the former catalogue which list prizes, honors, and degrees awarded. The Financial Report is Number 2 in the series, dated for September. The "Directory of Officers and Students," which has been published, is Number 3 and is expected to appear hereafter about the first of October. The publication which corresponds most nearly to the former catalogue is Number 4, "General Regulations and Catalogue of Courses," which will be published this year in December, republished with some revisions in March and hereafter published in March regularly. Number 5, an illustrated descriptive booklet, will correspond somewhat to the illustrated booklet "Dartmouth College" which has recently been available and will include also official information which will answer the questions of the usual inquirer who writes in to request a catalogue. Number 6, "Student Residence—Dormitory Room Plans" corresponds to the book now issued through the Bursar's office. Number 7 this year is the repetition of "General Regulations and Catalogue of Courses" booklet. Numbers 8, 9, and 10 are the announcements of the Tuck School, Thayer School, and Medical School. All will be designed in the same format and some will be bound together for distribution to libraries, schools, and colleges. This year's financial report was included in the series with the newly designed cover, but it had already been set in type when the new plans went into effect so that its text is not in the new design. The whole project is a new departure in college catalogues.

The Dartmouth College Publications Committee, headed by Albert I. Dickerson '30, has been assisted in working out plans for the new Bulletin series by a special editorial committee including E. Gordon Bill, dean of the faculty; Robert O. Conant '13, registrar; Sidney C. Hayward '26, secretary; and Charles E. Widmayer '30, director of the News Service.
