Fraternity Questionnaire
February 1935

The first work of the President's committee, appointed to study social life at Dartmouth, came to the attention of undergraduates when a questionnaire was submitted to all members of fraternities at Wednesday night meetings, January 16. The committee was assisted in the project by local fraternity advisers and alumni who attended their chapter meetings on that night and supervised giving the questionnaire. The 12-page folder carrying the committee's requests for information consisted of 99 questions, many of which were divided into several subheads. R. R. Larmon '19, chairman of the committee, stated that a very gratifying response was secured from fraternity men, there being only a small number of men absent from the meetings and in most cases these were unavoidably absent. There are about 1300 men in the three upper classes who are members of fraternities. He also expressed great appreciation for the valuable cooperation of local alumni and the Interfraternity Council in assisting the committee to carry through this project.

A second questionnaire is being prepared for non-fraternity men and another, not to be submitted until later in the year, will go to freshmen. Because of President Hopkins' instructions that the committee is to study the whole social fabric of the College, its first work is to collect factual information related to the broad scope of the survey.

Mr. Larmon, in behalf of the committee, has requested the MAGAZINE to ask any alumni to correspond with him if they have information or opinions which would be useful to the committee. This data may be concerned with fraternities or with any other phase of social life at Dartmouth.
