MONTPELIER, VT., Feb. 20 Out of a known list of 35 Dartmouth men who are at present either permanent or transient residents of the capital city twenty-sevenheaded by Governor Charles M. Smith of the class of '9l—met last night at the call of Vernon A. Doty '92, auditor of accounts of the National Life Insurance company, for an informal dinner at Montpelier Tavern to honor the governor and have a goad time.
While there have been all-Vermont : reunions of Dartmouth alumni here, this was the first purely local gathering of Dartmouth men. Fred A. Howland '87, president of the National Life Insurance company and former trustee of the college, found himself at this meeting for the first time distinguished as the oldest Dartmouth alumnus present, so far as class numerals showed. His closest competitor was Clarence E. Moulton '89, treasurer of the National Life.
Sherman R. Moulton '98, judge of the Vermont Supreme court, Stephen S. Crushing '06, chairman of the Vermont Public Service commission, and Hubert E. Sargent '15, Vermont State Highway commissioner and chief engineer, were among the state officeholders present.
In addition to the three National Life representatives already named, others from that company were Albert C. Bliss '37, actuarial clerk: Charles E. Crane '06, director of publicity; Paul K. DeBoer '19, auditing clerk; while Dr. George' E. Allen '10, assistant medical director, and George B. Young '90, vice-president and general counsel, also Dartmouth alumni on the National staff, were absent.

Howe '17, cashier, Montpelier National bank; F. L. Laird '19, agent, Mutual Life Insurance company; F. P. Lowe '15, treasurer, Montpelier Savings Bank and Trust company; E. D. Massucco '27, manager, Capital Beverage company; G. R. McKee '23, attorney: R. H. Ryan '30, attorney; J. L. Slafter '10, druggist; J. F. Stone '28, attorney and city grand juror; A. C. Theriault '11, attorney and city judge; E. Whitehill '32, state highway engineer; G. A. Reed '03, city engineer; Chandler Griggs '31, engineer of the New Hampshire highway department, and Lester Richwagen '23, legislative reporter of the Barre Times.
