You HAVE ALL read about the sensational achievements of the Dartmouth ski team, by all odds the best team the College ever had or any other college for that matter.

But how about the ordinary skier whose name does not appear in the headlines, but who was out every day practicing turns? Here is what the figures of the Recreation Department show:

1928 Men taking skiing 94 1932 Men taking skiing 184 1934 Men taking skiing 158 1935 Men taking skiing 346

Quite a jump in numbers isn't it? Charly Dudley '29 has charge of the teaching with undergraduate help, including some of the best men on the squad. Men were graded A, B, C, and D according to their proficiency. The whole squad went down the steep slopes by the No. 1 tee on the new golf course and then graduated to Balch Hill for slalom and downhill practice. Hell's Highway at Moosilauke only remained unconquered. Thirty or forty men emerged with very real ability. They will be real competitors for the varsity team. And we are not saying a word about the boys of Hanover, but there are four of them on the varsity team now.
