Dartmouth activity in the Northwest reached a new high during April with the ski team's arrival to take part in the Olympic Trials at Mt. Rainier. A luncheon was held to greet them and a farewell dinner given on the way back. The alumni turned out in force for both occasions and their enthusiasm together with Coach Otto Schniebs' oratory made both meetings the most successful of the season.
We are still going around with our chests out bragging about the boys, and for once we have been in the enviable position of being able to talk as much as we please about Dartmouth without being called bores. Everyone liked the team personally and their exhibition of skiing still has them with their mouths open. Nothing in recent years has done so much for Dartmouth on the coast. The team's sportsmanship as well as their ability has made the College a host of friends.
The local alumni committee on applicants for admission has taken advantage of the publicity accruing from the ski meet with the result that the list of applicants for admission for the next few years makes even the pre-depression years look sick. There is a tremendous interest in skiing in this part of the country and the team's visit was all that was needed to focus attention on Dartmouth as a winter sports center. There are sure to be a good number of boys going back every year now who will be a credit to the College. On behalf of the alumni I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Outing Club for sending the boys out. We enjoyed their visit tremendously and feel that it was well worth while.
