I had to hit the long distance telephone lines this month for news. I should not have admitted that I had enough last time. You all got smug.
I left messages on the answering machines of Lincoln Hess in New York City and Francis Hellman in New Jersey. No return messages have yet been left on my answering machine.
I reached Jeff Sussman in Wahoo, Neb., where he is in the National Health Corps. Wahoo is about a 30-mile drive from Omaha. Jeff is married to Katharine Cummings Sussman '79, who is a computer analyst in Omaha. They have a 19month-old daughter named Katie. Jeff is specializing in family practice, after doing medical school at Dartmouth. He hopes to get a job teaching after he finishes his obligation in Nebraska.
Cliff Below is still in the Upper Valley. He lives with Rick Barrows and ChipBlough in a cooperative house, along with three other people. After Dartmouth, Cliff did a masters in community economic development at New Hampshire College in Manchester, N.H. Chip ran a number of times for city council in Lebanon, where he now lives, but finally gave up. Cliff's concerns for human services led to his present interest in downtown revitalization. He has become the managing general partner in a couple of real estate concerns, TCG Development Group and One Court Street Associates. TCG is building the "Courtyard Pavilion" in downtown Lebanon, a 17,000-square foot octagonal building with brick, glass, and a copper hipped roof.' Cliff is also on the board of the Haymarket People's Fund, which funds radical and progressive social change groups. Cliff reports that campus institution Howard Howkins '75 now lives in a condo in Quechee (still in the Upper Valley) and now agitates New Englandwide, rather than just on campus.
Chip Blough is spending as much time as he can playing music. For a while after Dartmouth he worked in a windmill factory, which later went under. Chip prefers music. He drums for an African dance class one night a week and does jazz gigs with this bass guitar. Chip has also played with performance artist Elizabeth Austin and hopes to go on an East Coast tour with her soon. Chip also plays with Rick Barrows, with Rick on mandolin and Chip on bass. Chip and Rick have done contradance music together and hope to appear as backup on a recording with a country singer. The recording will feature songs on the subjects of pining for 1952, being a prostitute in Boston, and how great a writer Louis L'Amour is. Rick is the administrative director at Headrest, Inc., a 24-hour telephone hotline for people who are depressed, suicidal, or have drug problems. Headrest is located in Lebanon and provides a tremendous service for all people in the community, including many overstressed Dartmouth students. Rick spends a lot of time fund-raising to keep the organization going.
Tom Johansen is also in Lebanon. After Dartmouth, Tom did three years with the Peace Corps in West Africa, two years at Cornell to get his M.B.A., and two years at Arthur Anderson in Hartford. At Arthur Anderson, Tom worked with KevinChase. Kevin started the same day Tom did. Tom is presently with Foster and Bridgeman in Lebanon, a C.P.A. firm. Tom's clients include Cliff Below. Tom's wife, Sarah, is a second year medical student at Dartmouth. Tom met her at Cornell, where she did her undergraduate work. Tom and Sarah have a two-year-old daughter, Kaitlin. A few weeks after naming their daughter, they read much to their dismay in People that "Kaitlin" is the yuppie name of the eighties for girls.
Living in Sachem Village with Tom is Jeff Garnett. Jeff is a first year student at Tuck School. Jeff and Tom have found themselves crossing paths quite a bit. They went to elementary school, high school, and Dartmouth together, before meeting yet again at Dartmouth. Before going to Tuck, Jeff spent eight years with the Bank of Boston. Jeff's last four years at the bank were in South America, in particular Bolivia and Venezuela. Jeff's wife, Tasha, is an 'BO. They have two girls, Erin and Hilary.
Tom Swartwood married Tarri Combs, a fellow law student at Georgetown, on September 27, 1986. They have moved to the Lower East Side of New York City. Tom believes that the area has many Dartmouth grads, because he sees a lot of green hair. Tom works in investment banking, specializing in small growth companies. He is a vice president of Swartwood Hesse, Inc.
Charles Hansen is an assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York. In June 1986 he married Anne Samuels, a senior researcher at WGBHTV, the public television station in Boston. Anne is a graduate of Wellesley College. Charles apparently went to Harvard Law School.
Dave Hall is living in Swarthmore, Pa. He and his wife, Jenny, have two children, Elizabeth (three) and Richard (born last July).

Christine Hayer is a director of regional sales at CIGNA RE, a CIGNA company. Christine got a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1984. She lives in Bloomfield, Conn.
Don Ankeny has been named a partner in the Trammell Crow Company in Minnesota. Don will be managing partner in charge of the Colonnade, a 15story, 360,000 square foot office building that will be connected to a future luxury hotel. Don got his M.B.A. at Stan ford. Don is a, member of the Rideshare Advisory Committee of the Regional Transit Committee, the Transportation Committee of the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of the Industry and Office Parks (NAIOP).
