Included among six new courses to be given next year are two language courses to be studied entirely in translation under the new heading of Romance Civilizations. These two courses, the first modern language studies of their kind at Dartmouth, will deal respectively with French and Italian literature, and will approximate in purpose the courses now given in Classical Civilization. Neither course will count toward the language requirements for the degree.
Romance Civilization 11-12, taught by Professor Montsie, will deal with masterpieces of French literature both as the reflection of the society of their time and as important contributions to the development of French civilization. Romance Civilization 13-14, taught by Professor G. C. Wood, will take up the life and works of Dante.
