The movie service of the College known as "Dartmouth College News" announces the completion of a five reel picture of year-round activities of the student body. This film, named "Dartmouth Life," is sponsored by the Secretaries Association and is designed to be used on alumni club meeting programs and also in giving information about the College to secondary school students who may be interested in applying for admission to Dartmouth. It is also suitable for home showing since the film used is the 16 mm. size, silent.
With the assistance of Edwin Schwarz, professional cameraman in New York City, the College movie service has used the best of some former scenes together with a number of new shots to make this comprehensive "story of Dartmouth" which requires a projection time of a little more than one hour. The picture is carefully edited and fully titled to give an audience an accurate idea of student activities and daily life in Hanover throughout the college year.
OPENING OF COLLEGE
Reel one opens with scenes of boys leaving for Hanover from homes in various parts of the country and from foreign cities. The sequence moves on to the arrival of the student body via trains, busses, and cars with emphasis on the busy September days when Hanover is outfitting and guiding new students and freshmen are put to work. There is a scene of President Hopkins at matriculation when he meets every new student, and other colorful shots of the first days of the college year.
Reel two opens with class-room, laboratory, and student-faculty conference scenes. Striking shots of football practice and some of the early games precede scenes from the games at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton.
The film moves on to the coming of winter when the leadership of the Dartmouth Outing Club in its ski tow cabin trips, Carnival competition, and other activities is shown. There are also views of a performance by the Players.
Features of reel four are scenes of various rooms and study halls in Baker Library, intellectual center of the College, and numerous shots of gymnasium activities. The full flowering of spring activity is heralded by the Glee Club singing on the steps of Dartmouth Hall and then follows a sequence of shots of spring athletics and other out-door recreation. The last reel shows some of the preparations being made for Commencement. The senior class is shown in Class Day exercises and also at Baccalaureate and graduation exercises in the Bema. Concluding scenes show many of the College buildings and campus vistas in a series of striking studies.
The five reels are available for a rental fee of $5. Applications should be sent to the Secretary's Office, 208 Parkhurst Hall.
