The members of our class learned with deep regret of the serious affliction with which Walter B. Patterson, one of the more conspicuous members of the class and its co-secretary, recently met.
Late in October he suffered a shock at his home in Washington, D. C., that affected him mentally and physically.
His right side was paralyzed and he lost the power of speech, although his mind appeared clear, for, while unable to express himself in words, he could do so by signs and gestures.
It is very gratifying to his family, relatives, classmates, and many friends now to learn that under skillful treatment and painstaking care, he is greatly improved. His speech is gradually coming back, a new word coming to him each day, and he is able to get about while attended by his nurse.
It is now hoped and expected that his ultimate recovery may be realized.
Hon. John McCrillis, who was in quite poor health for a time, appears to be better since his retirement from his more active duties. He and his wife were cheered at Christmas by the presence of his two children and his two grandchildren in their pleasant home at Newport, N. H.
Prof. Samuel W. Robertson, who spent many years as an educational instructor in schools in New Hampshire and California and was later one of the board of school commissioners in Santa Barbara, Calif., has retired from active public duties and with Mrs. Robertson is enjoying his retirement in his present home city. His son Alfred, a graduate of Stanford University, is practicing law with eminent success in Los Angeles. He was greatly elated at the victory of his alma mater in the Rose Bowl football game New Year's.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred E. Watson had the pleasure of having their daughter, Margery—Mrs. Henry M. Larson—and two children from Morristown, N. J., in their home,—Overlook,—during the whole holiday season. Her husband, Dartmouth 1910, non-graduate, who transferred to Colorado College, is a successful practicing physician in their home city.
During the past two years, Mr. Watson has been in the United States Government service, having received unsolicited appointments to positions in the Home Owners' Loan Corporation, the Federal Housing Corporation, and the Reconstruction Finance Corporation.
Secretary, Hartford, Vt.
