A new high for the year was set in Hanover entertainment on the evening of January 14, when Gladys Swarthout, young mezzo-soprano star of the opera, radio, and cinema enthralled a capacity audience in Webster Hall. This was the second major attraction of the current Dartmouth College Concert Series. The sincere and informal manner in which Miss Swarthout presented this concert won her thunderous applause and cheers, while all the music lovers except a few local scribes seemed satisfied with the quality of her singing.

The management of the Nugget distinguished itself by bringing Miss Swarthout's new picture, "Rose of the Rancho," to town just two days later, and not even content with this coup, presented a Lily Pons picture on the intervening day.

We have other items, but not much space into which to squeeze them. Some mention should be made of the Chess Team (yes, Dartmouth has a chess team), which competed in the Intercollegiate Chess Championships at New York during Christmas vacation and had the misfortune to finish in last place. Harvard won.

The Dartmouth recently elected a 1937 directorate of ten men, the largest in its history. Names and position will be found in Milestones.
