NEW OFFICERS have been elected for the year 1936. Clark Schmidt '33 fills the shoes of the able Pierre Grace '33 as president. Bob Lindstedt '34 takes over the vacant office of vice president, once held by the same able Pierre but vacated by him when our worthy president, John Laffey '29, followed his fortunes to New York and left us stranded. Max Waldsmith '33 has been appointed to take care of a new office, that of Historian, the duties being to keep up the scrap book of local activities and make more regular reports to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. A new policy was adopted in respect to the office of secretary and treasurer; that is, to have the tenure of this office three years instead of the regular one for the other officers on the theory that the duties were primarily routine and making it foolish to break a new man in each year, (sic) Therefore, T. B. Curtis '32, incumbent, was held over for two more years.
A new committee has been appointed upon the suggestion of Doc Davis '16 headed by Leigh Turner '04 and J. J. Wertheimer '75 to consider the feasibility of starting a scholarship fund for prospective Dartmouth men in St. Louis. Dues of one dollar a year were decided upon and declared due, which ought to finish all our business until next year.
Our annual Christmas Luncheon for the vacationing undergraduates, prospective Dartmouth's fathers, mothers, wives, future wives, and friends was held with great success and hilarity. The only missing link was the inimitable extempore speech by D. Kerwin '35, but he has graduated and gone to New York.
Our January smoker held at Dusty Griffin's ('28) home turned out to be one of the most successful of the long chain in spite of all the business that was transacted. The reason for the success was Bus May's ('35) movies taken in Russia and Japanese Asia on the trip he made as a member of March of Time's staff. Of course there was the sine qua non of Dusty's beer and pretzels. The Feb. smoker is to be held Feb. 14 (Dartmouth Night we think) at Tom Curtis' ('32) home, 453 Gray Ave., Webster Groves.
MEMBERSHIP GROWING
The St. Louis club has shown a nice increase in membership in the past year despite the fact that a number of our standbys have left town. Our club now boasts a rollcall of 72. Among the latest arrivals are: Jack Au Werter '35, connected with the lamp department of General Electric; Jack says he came from Cleveland which has some recommendations—Jim Alfring '35, C. W. DeMond '19 connected with Price Waterhouse and coming from New York; Mr. DeMond does not appreciate the smoke of our fair city, but we assured him it was only fog like what London has—John Nelson '31, with Doctor as prefix, has come back into the fold while he internes at the St. Louis Children's Hospital; John says he will go back to Colorado when he finishes. There are those who would apply the motto cherchez la femme—Rev. Fred Long '11 and Michael A. Dailey '04 who is with the Government at Jefferson Barracks.
