Dartmouth's first appearance in intercollegiate rowing since the Saratoga Regatta of 1875 resulted in a five-lengths victory for the Cornell 150's on Lake Cayuga, Saturday, May 16. The Green crew, coached by Jim Smith of the Union Boat Club of Boston, got away to an excellent start, but Cornell's precision and experience gave the winners a great advantage and they were well ahead at the half-way mark. The Red crew covered the Henley distance in 7:04, with Dartmouth crossing the line at 7:30.6.

In the Dartmouth shell upon this historic occasion were Captain Ernest Stephens '36, bow; Gilbert R. Tanis '3B, No. 2; Richard D. Spring '37, No. 3; William F. Lee Jr. '39, No. 4; Carl M. Hecker '3B, No. 5; Louis H. Van Dike Jr. '3B, No. 6; Frederick H. Mayne '3B, No. 7; Dana S. Prescott '37, stroke; and Thomas D. Duff '37, coxswain. With the exception of Stephens and Mayne, the Dartmouth crew has learned all its rowing under Coach Smith on Lake Mascoma. Captain Stephens formerly rowed with the Springfield Rowing Association and Mayne stroked the varsity shell at Culver two years ago.
