SQUASH
February 1951

Under the able and devoted tutelage of Coach Red Hoehn, the squash team is carrying on another winter campaign. With an important match with the Army coming up a week after we go to press, the current aggregation lines up as follows: 1. Paul Simel; 2. Rick Austin; 3. Captain Hunter White; 4. Dick Hulbert; 5. Steve Foster; 6. Jim Wylie; 7. Don Smith; 8. Bill Flanagan; 9. Warner Graeve. Three other men are currently competing for the 9th position on the squad. They are: Bob Cullerton, Mindy Balkin, and Larry Harrison.

Coach Hoehn lost his two best men from the last year's aggregation by the inexorable process of graduation. He lost another top performer by scholastic ineligibility, this one Bill Fisher, who played last year as a sophomore. In common with many of the teams of the past, this year's is noted for its balance down the line, rather than for its exceptional strength at the top. Boys who have played a great deal of high level squash in prep school apparently enter Dartmouth but rarely, preferring to attend some of our sister institutions. As a result, Coach Hoehn must start virtually from scratch each year and he manages to develop some able contenders by their senior year. This is another of those years when Dartmouth wins more matches in the middle and lower part of the order than at the top.
