Gridiron developments during the past month centered around the two announcements that Osborne B. Cowles, recently appointed basketball coach, would take over the freshman coaching post, and that Eddie Chamberlain, backfield star of the past two seasons, had been added to the varsity staff with as yet unassigned duties. Sid Hazelton '09, who has coached the yearling eleven for the past two years under the Blaik regime, will continue to coach the varsity and freshman swimming teams and the freshman baseball team, and is expected to devote much' of his time in the fall to administrative duties in connection with the health program. Coach Cowles' past record includes the successful handling of football as well as basketball teams, and his work with the Green freshmen will undoubtedly be carried on in close touch with the varsity staff.
The spring training period closed on Saturday, May 9, with a full-game scrimmage which disclosed that next fall's sophomore group will come in mighty handy. Last year's undefeated freshman squad will particularly bolster the Green backfield, where graduation has taken the heaviest toll. Noteworthy improvement has been made this spring in the passing attack, due mainly to the development of Fred Holling- worth. With the veterans of the line and backfield showing up well and with the yearling crop displaying potential brilliance, it is difficult not to become bullish after a preview of the Big Green for 1936.
