THE SETTING was idyllic and reminiscent of Hanover .... below flowed the Schuylkill River, behind rose the majestic and heavily wooded Blue Mountains, . . . . the scene was the supper outing staged May 28, through the generous hospitality of Lee Bausher of Reading, at the spacious Bausher Farms up the river beyond Hamburg .... the boys turned out in grand style .... seen at the tea party were Louie "Southpaw" Ekstrom '12, Hugo Gumbart '16, Park "Duffy" Karnan '17, Bob "Ad-man" Ritter '18, Jim Reber '20, Lee "Dutch" Bausher '21, Ken "Caribou" Smiley 21, Charley Stickney '21, Andy Marshall '22, Walt "TNT" Bowlby '27, Milt Shultz '30, Bill "Houdini" Bucher '32, Jack "Bond-man" Loose '33, Johnnie Mullen '35, Lloyd "Dude" Krum '38 ....
as a guest we were fortunte in having Earl Reifisel, Lafayette College '20, on a trip home from Berlin, where he has been stationed for some years as an executive of F. W. Woolworth Cos., G.m.b.H
Earl gave us some inside dope on developments and trends in the Germany of today, holding everyone spellbound for hours; after the informal roundtable questioning, he was voted life membership in the Eastern Penna. Dartmouth association . . . .
by July 9 the thermometer had soared to 96 degrees for a new season's high, signalizing the success of our second picnic of the summer .... the de resistance was a talk by Jack McAvoy '2B, head football coach at Ursinus .... Jack touched on the problems of a coach and also gave interesting highlights of the famous campaign waged on gridirons as far west as Chicago by the outstanding 1925 edition of the Big Green .... three reels of Hanover movies were ably projected by our host, Bob Ritter, who spared no effort to make the affair a wow .... the locale was Rok-E-Run, his camp on the bank of Hokendauqua Creek near Kreidersville, ten miles north of Allentown .... for the occasion Easton sent Os Skinner '2B, the club's peripatetic president, and his father Dr. Wilson M. Skinner ("Os" maintains residence in Easton, New York City, Hanover, N. H., and possibly other points) . . . . Bethlehem provided us with Bill Bucher '32, Lou Ekstrom 'l2, Ken Smiley '21 . . . . Allentown sent Walt Bowlby '27, Ed Heath '38, home for the summer, Park Raman '17, Bob "Signpainter" Ritter '18, Bob Simonds '25, Charley Stickney '21 Reading favored us with Jimmy Rick '3l and Milt Shultz '3O ... . all the way from Phoenixville, to the south of Collegeville, drove Jack McAvoy '2B to make the night a memorable one for everyone present .... Johnnie Mullen '35 of Reading, and Frank Rood '2l of Detroit, Mich., but spending his vacation in Allentown, were to be with us but were kept away by untoward last-minute developments .... as these notes go to press we are cooking up another get-together, which will be reported in an early issue .... our executive committee has been enlarged to five members with the naming of J. Lee Bausher and Milton G. Shultz, both representing Reading.
