FOR SEVERAL years the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Westchester County, N. Y., has held a smoker on the night before the Yale game. We held the smoker this year at the Gedney Farms Country Club, White Plains, N. Y., and were extremely fortunate in having Dean Neidlinger and Dave Cammerer as our guests. The officers and members of the committee in charge of the Smoker were happy to have the largest group ever present at a Dartmouth-in-Westchester Smoker. When Hub Harwood stopped collecting and closed the ticket window we had counted 146. Last year the attendance was less than 100.
Dean Neidlinger gave us a very interesting talk about conditions at Dartmouth, life in Hanover and some of the problems of the Dean's office. We had several rolls of films from Hanover showing the 1936 football team in action. Dave Cammerer talked about this year's team and also commented upon the movies.
We missed Warren Agry '11, our president, who, after spending a great deal of time in planning the program, had to leave for the coast on business several days before the date of the Smoker. Sid (Irish) Flanigan '23, former "Mayor" of Hanover, and popular member of the Association presided and was in his usual good form. He entertained the group while we waited for Dave Cammerer to arrive. After the movies Charlie Holbrook '24 played the piano for the men who wanted to sing Dartmouth songs and groups gathered to discuss the game and to renew old friendships. At midnight there were still twenty or twenty-five discussing the good old days and enjoying a drink or two together. All in all it appeared to be one of the best gettogethers Dartmouth men have ever had in Westchester. We are indebted to Dean Neidlinger, Dave Cammerer, Charlie Holbrook, Sid Flanigan and Hub Harwood for a very enjoyable evening.
