John Stearns, our Web site coordinator, has put together a list of some 80 members of the class, with e-mail addresses. If you would like a copy, either contact Bull Moose (john.p.steams@valley.net) or me. Easy way to keep in touch. I must report the death of yet another classmate. Mit Pappa died in Sarasota, Florida, from Alzheimer's disease. Mit had lived in Hingham, Massachusetts, and then in Florida, where he developed real estate. He was also the recipient of a Purple Heart from his service in the Marine Corps. A great mini-reunion was held in September, with the highlight being the awarding of Gold Pick Axes to two outstanding members of the class. Clarke Church and Carll Tracy have stood tall all these years and looked especially deserving of this award. Remember that archaic method of seating us in alphabetical order in classes so that the profs could keep track easily? Carll and I often were next to each other and my good eyesight got me through many a class.
Economics Professor Bell would have loved the recent case study on the price of Irish whiskey rising because of a maj or spike on con- sumption during September, which, inciden- tally coincided with a Dartmouth alumni trip to Ireland. Participating, and driving the sales, without doubt, were Bob Baum, Clarke and Jane Church, Bill and Naomi Ballard, Phyllis Swift, Punchy Thomas, John and Vi Adler and Burt and Carol Proom. As I recall, Bell used to draw those supply-and-demand curves on blackboards in Dartmouth Hall, which required him to ex- trapolate the line across a door or window to get to the next blackboard, while all eyes rolled skyward. Assume thatyou have all seen and tak- en action on the upcoming (April 8-22) mini- reunion trip to Portugal and Spain as described in Bill Ballard's special newsletter. If not, call Overseas Adventure Travel (800-353-6262) to see if there is still room. BJ and I had a great trip to Wimbledon and then Scotland early in the summer, including a visit to my cousins, who own a huge raspberry farm up there. Also crewed on a wild Friendship Sloop race off the coast of Maine in which one of the boats sank and several were disabled. The Dartmouth Athletic Sponsor Program reports that the class of '49 is one of the top 10 classes in the number of individual sponsors. This is a great program worthy of your support and a fine way to participate in the strengthening of Dartmouth athletic teams. If you have not been in Hanover lately, you will find a visit an eye-opener with a great deal of building going on, and believe it or not, parking is no problem in the new Parking garage, which is inexpensive, friendly and about three quarters empty most of the time. You all come, ya hear.
